I am trying to confirm the parentage of "Jack Charles" Akers. He identified that he was born 24 July 1904 in Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia to George W. and Ellen Reynolds Akers. Census records in 1910 and 1920 have George and his family living in Lead Mines, Wythe County, Virginia (Ellen died in 1916). They had a son Charlie T. born on 29 November 1890 and a son James (Jack) Clarence Akers born about 1909. The only other son they had was identified as Kerns in one census record and Edgar in the other. DNA testing confirms that my "Jack Charles" was descended from the Reynolds and Akers family. Does anyone have any knowledge of what happened to Kern Edgar? Could he have changed his name? Most of the kids remained in the Virginia area but "Jack Charles" ended up in Oregon and Washington.
