German: variant of Petsch . Germanized form of Slovenian Peče: topographic name derived from peč ‘rugged rock’. In large part Petsche is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola Slovenia (see Kocevar ) and may alternatively derive from a Germanized form of Slovenian pečar ‘stove-maker’ (see Pecar ).
