This database is an index to the certificates of citizenship record books from Box Elder County, Utah between 1868 and 1869. Citizenship certificates were issued to newly naturalized citizens and contained information such as the applicant's name, original nationality, and an indication that he had completed a declaration of intention two years before. Witnesses who vouched for the applicant's character and testified that the applicant had lived in the United States for five years and in Utah for one year, are also noted. The index to these records, which was created by and obtained from the Utah State Archives, provide the applicant's name, date certificate was issued, country of origin, and a page number referring to the location of the original record. Microfilmed copies of these original records are available for research at the Archives as Series # 85171.
