Grevesmühlen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany, Births, 1876-1901

This is a collection of birth records from Grevesmühlen and the communities of Diedrichshagen, Friedrichshagen, and Roggenstorf.

Dating back to the 13th century, Grevesmühlen is one of the oldest towns in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, lying near the coast of the Baltic Sea in an area surrounded by lakes, woods, and plains. Following the unification of Germany in 1871, civil registration began in 1876 in Mecklenburg.

These records use a standard form that typically includes the following details:

• certificate number
• date of registration
• witness name, residence, religion, and how identified to the registrar
• mother’s name and maiden name, religion, and residence
• child’s birth date and gender
• child’s name (or if not yet named, “noch nicht”)
