Sweden saw approximately 1.3 million citizens leave the country between the mid-19th century and the early decades of the 20th century, with mass emigration peaking in the late 1800s. The majority of those emigrants left through Gothenburg, Sweden’s most important western port.

Images of the original records are also included, and these may indicate a residence or a final destination. Researchers may be able to extrapolate or uncover relationships among family members they can see are traveling together.
