 | Prayer Cards owned by Sarah Slack, which on the back side she had written her family heritage. This group includes (from left to right): Patrick O'Shea, her maternal grandfather, Mary Anne O'Shea (nee Portley), her maternal grandmother, James Slack, her father, Anne Slack (nee O'Shea), her mother, Mary Anne Boyes (nee Slack), her sister, and William Boyes, her brother-in-law and Marry Anne Slack's husband. The final two cards are for Sarah Burton (nee Slack) herself, and her husband, Alfred James Burton.It is likely that the final two cards were written after both Sarah and Alfred's deaths, most likely to continue the legacy. This can be assumed as at the bottom of Alfred's card, it says 'R.I.P', indicating the death was recent. It can also be assumed as the cards are written in the same pen, and a clearly different pen to all other cards.Similarly, the card for Sarah's sister, Mary Anne Boyes (nee Slack), also has 'R.I.P' at the bottom, indicating the card was written soon after her passing. It can also be noted that her address, Wooroolin Road, is written at the bottom of her husband's card in a different style pen to the rest of his card. All of the top row of cards were written with a consistent pen and were likely written around the same time. One thing that can be noted is that the death years for Patrick O'Shea and Mary Anne O'Shea (nee Portley), Sarah's maternal grandparents, are both incorrect by a few years. With Patrick O'Shea, this cannot be disproven as there is no record matching up. However, with Mary Anne, there is a death record from 1894 that matches not only the location of death but also her mother's name, which is provided in Prayer Cards Group 2. Therefore, it can be concluded that 1894 is her proper death year. Her father's birth year is also slightly inaccurate, but only by 3 years. | William Boyes (born year) | |
