Wilmore Family History

Wilmore Name Meaning

English: habitational name from Wildmoor in Belbroughton (Worcestershire) and perhaps also from Wildmore Fen (Lincolnshire) though early evidence that the latter gave rise to a surname is lacking. A third possible source is the Weald Moors (Shropshire) recorded as Wyldemor' in 1291– The placenames derive from Old English wilde ‘wild’ + mōr ‘moor’. There may have been some confusion with the surname Willmer .
