Verdun Name Meaning
French and English (of Norman origin): habitational name from any of various places in France called Verdun. The place name is probably of Gaulish origin, deriving from ver(n) ‘alder’ + dun ‘hill’, ‘fortress’. Some early bearers of the name certainly came from a place of this name in La Manche, others possibly from one in Eure.
