Hungarian: from dialect siska ‘long-eared pig’ hence a nickname for someone with big ears. In some cases it may also nickname or a metonymic occupational name of Slavic origin (see above and below). Slovenian (Šiška): from šiška ‘gallnut’ applied as a nickname or as a metonymic occupational name for a seller of gallnuts or a tanner (gallnuts are rich in tannic acid and have been used in tanning).
