Polish: variant of Szeliga . Slovak (mainly Šeliga) and Czech (Šeliga); Slovenian (Šeliga): most likely related to the Polish surnames Seliga (see above) and Szeliga . It has also been suggested that the Slovak name is a variant of Šaliga (see Saliga ) but this is less probable. Czech: derivative of (Middle High) German selig ‘happy fortunate’ (see Selig ).
