Dutch: variant of Paas or a topographic name (Van der Pas) from Latin pascuum ‘pasture-land’. French: habitational name from Pas the name of several places in the north of France (and in Belgium) for example Pas-en-Artois named with Latin passus ‘step track’. Compare Depas and Dupas .
