Italian: patronymic or plural form of a Genoese equivalent of Luxardo from luzardo ‘someone who shines’ as an auspicious name. This form is also linked with the Sardinian personal name Luxorio Lussorio which was borne by a Christian saint a soldier martyred during the persecution of Diocletian; San Lussorio is the patron of numerous places in the provinces of Nuoro and Oristano.
