This surname is also found in Slovakia Serbia and Croatia where it is also spelled in the Slavicized form Lovaš; compare 2 below. Possibly also an Americanized form of Hungarian Lovász ‘groom stableman’ (see Lovasz ). Croatian and Rusyn; Slovak (Lovás): occupational name from Hungarian lovász ‘groom stableman’ (see Lovasz compare 1 above) as a dialect or archaic loanword spelled in Croatian lovas in Slovak lovás. Norwegian (Løvås): variant of Løvaas (see Lovaas ).
