Leino Name Meaning

Finnish: from leina an old adjective meaning ‘gloomy miserable’. Adopted as an ornamental name in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Finns without surnames or to replace Swedish surnames in western and southern Finland (compare Laine ). A small number of examples have also been recorded since the 18th century in the Karelian Isthmus.
