Polish (Kuźma) Slovak (also Kužma) Rusyn (in Slovakia also Kužma) Slovenian (also Küzma) Czech Croatian Ukrainian and Belorussian: from the personal name Kuzma (Polish Kuźma Slovenian dialect also Küzma) from Greek Kosmas a derivative of kosmos ‘order arrangement (ordered) universe’ also ‘ornament’. It was borne by an early Christian saint martyred in Cilicia in AD 303 under the emperor Domitian together with his brother Damian (see Damian ); they came to be widely revered as patron saints of doctors.
