German: alternatively a shortened form of Koldenhof a habitational name meaning literally ‘cold farm’ in Mecklenburg a cognate of Kalthoff . (Standardized form is Kaltenhof a frequent placename in northern Germany former East Prussia also in Bavaria and Württemberg.)
