Inoue Name Meaning
Japanese: written 井上 a topographic name meaning ‘above the well’ and earlier pronounced Inoe. It is found in western Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. Some bearers were daimyō (feudal lords) of Mikawa (now part of Aichi prefecture); others were samurai from western Honshū and southern Kyūshū. Commonly Romanized as Inouye in older immigrant families.
