Japanese: written 広田 or 弘田 ‘wide rice paddy’. This is the name of an immigrant family in Japan from Paekche an ancient Korean kingdom (15 BCAD 663) with many close Japanese ties; also other families descended more recently from the Sasaki and Watarai clans. The name is mainly found in west-central Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. It is listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku.
