Gazzo Name Meaning
Italian: of uncertain etymology. It is probably from medieval Greek Gatsos, a pet form of Georgatsos, a derivative of Georgios (see George). However, Caracausi proposes that it is a nickname from Sicilian gazzu ‘blue-eyed’ (also ‘short-sighted’), or from Old Italian gazzo ‘deep blue’ (like the feathers of a magpie, Italian gazza). It could also be a habitational name from Gazzo in Padova province, Gazzo Veronese in Verona province, or from a reduced form of Agazzo, from Late Latin Agathius, either a masculine form of Agata or from the analogous Germanic personal name Agathio.
