German: in some cases the Slavic word voj ‘man’, ‘warrior’ (variants vojko, vojka) may have been adapted, since, according to Brechenmacher, several 16th-century documents from eastern Germany report the name. Jewish (Ashkenazic): ornamental name from German Feige ‘fig’.
