In the northeast this name is found among Kayasths, pronounced deb. In Maharashtra Konkanasth Brahmans have a clan called Dev. Italian: from a short form of the personal names Amadeo, Laudadeo, or Sperindeo, of which only the first now remains in use as a given name.
