Cygan Name Meaning
Polish: nickname and in some cases perhaps also an ethnic name from cygan ‘gypsy’ as a nickname applied to someone who resembled a gypsy in some way e.g. because of dark skin or had some other connection with gypsies. This surname is also found among Rusyns (Lemkos). The same Sorbian surname is apparently found only in Germanized forms e.g. Zigan and Ziegan.
