Cobaugh Name Meaning

Probably an Americanized spelling of South German Kuhbach or Kuhbauch, or possibly North German Kobarg. The first, being a place name in Bavaria and Austria, indicates a habitational name; the second may be a mutated form of Kuhbach ‘cow creek’ to ‘cow belly (Bauch)’, a peasant nickname. The third is a variant of a habitational or topographic name Kuhberg meaning ‘cow hill’.
