Castleton Family History

Castleton Name Meaning

English: habitational name from any of several places so called in Derbyshire Dorset Lancashire or Roxburghshire from Old English castel ‘castle’ + tūn ‘settlement farmstead’. Castledon in Wickford (Essex) and Castleton in Danby (North Yorkshire) seem to be late names and therefore not likely sources and there is no evidence for derivation from Castleton in Hundleton (Pembrokeshire) or Castleton in Saint Athan (Glamorgan).
