Sounds like a "short" certificate which isn't a full copy of the birth register entry. You can apply for a full certificate in the usual way, from GRO or the local registration office.

It was (and still is) acceptable to register a birth without giving the child a name - could be they hadn't decided, or some people preferred to wait for the baptism to give the name.

They could add a name given later to the birth registration (for up to 12 months) but they didn't have to.
