I am a descendant of Philip Lambert also. His eldest son Job Lambert was my GGG Grandfather.

Here is the information I have been able to compile on him from other sources.

There are already validated records that he was in the Virginia Militia.

Philip LAMBERT, Sr. (son of Thomas LAMBERT) was born Btn. 1738 - 1743 in Laindon Hills, Essex, England, and died 1821 in Tazewell Co., VA. He married Mary Ann HENDERSON on abt. 1760 in VA.

Notes for Philip LAMBERT, Sr.:
May have been born abt. 1730

Per Romona P. Williams:
Philip came from Essex, England to VA on the RUBY to serve a convict’s indenture.
"Philip Lambert of Laindon Hills sentenced to transport at Quarter Sessions, July 1754"
Book: "Kings Passengers to MD and VA " by Peter Wilson Coldham Family Line Publications - 1997

{ and Jeremiah (Jemiah) of Laindon Hills SQS July 1754 E.}

Gazettteer - Laindon Parish (est. 1653) is located 3.5 miles SE of Billericay - Essex England

"Philip, Job’s father, was transported to the Colonies c. 1754, after he and his brothers, Jeremiah and William (all of Laindon Hills, Essex, England) had been arrested and convicted of stealing a few articles of clothing. It is not known for sure where they were landed but con census has them disembarking on the coast of VA. Nor is it known where they served their 7-year sentence".

Botetourt Co. became Montgomery Co. in 1777. Fincastle was founded in 1772. Jeremiah Lambert is believed to be the son of Philip and Mary Lambert who came to Botetourt Co. in 1770, from Lambert’s Point in Norfolk Co., VA.
MASON COUNTY HISTORY = gives sons John and Jeremiah.

Philip was born about 1730/1734 according to Virginia Militia records. He came to America, on the ship RUBY, as a reprieved felon from Laindon Hills, Essex Co., England, along with William and Jeremiah Lambert, who were probably his brothers. Philip was convicted of stealing one great coat, a smock frock, high shoes and plain shoes. In 1758, Thomas Lambert also came over as an English felon. He was from Great Badow, Essex Co., which is close to Laindon Hills; he may have been a brother or the father.
One story is that either William or Jeremiah traveled to Pennsylvania, one went south, and Philip stayed in VA, but nothing is certain (this sounds like the story of "three brothers" who went north, south and west).
Philip may have worked as an indentured servant for 7 years [on a tobacco plantation?], until about 1761. He is on the Fincastle County, VA Militia Tax rolls for 1769, 1770 and 1771. He served in Fincastle [Montgomery Co.] Militia and at least once he apparently conferred or conspired with the Tories because he had to pledge his allegiance to America a second time [when?].
He appears on Survey Records [Montgomery?] in 1786. He is on Montgomery Tax List 1788-1790, Tax List for Wythe/Tazewell 1790-1820. Family information comes from the Tax Lists, as the number of children in the home decreased, new young Lamberts appeared on the Tax List, these must be children of Phil and Mary.
Henry Lambert living in Tazewell was from Germany in 1764, and not related.
TAZEWELL COUNTY HERITAGE, Vol. 1, c1995, pg. 144: During the Revolutionary War, the Lamberts were probably domiciled in Montgomery Co., the section that became Wythe Co. Here they signed their allegiance to the patriot cause. From Montgomery Tax List B 1789: Philip with 4 males ages 16-21. He and three other Lamberts, Job, John and Jeremiah appear on the Wythe Tax List of 1793 [New River Valley - north of Walker’s Mountain] - owning 5 horses. When a petition to form Tazewell Co. was circulated in 1799, ten Lamberts signed including Stephen R.

An essay by Mary Lou Lambert states that Philip was the second child of Thomas and Elizabeth Trott Lambert of Essex Co., England. After Elizabeth died, Thomas married a widow, Ann Morgan Hoy. Philip and Jeremiah, his brother, were convicted of theft and sentenced to leave on the next ship. They were held in a London prison. The ship RUBY sailed in July 1754, under the commander, Edward Ogle; also on board was the brother William. Travel time was about six weeks, one source says the RUBY landed in Oct. 1754. Philip served his indentureship north of the York River. He married and his son John was born in Lancaster, PA [?], Philip moved to Brunswick and Montgomery Co., VA. Philip and Jeremiah were later convicted of being Tories, Philip was fined 50% of his tobacco crop.

We have copies of the court cases from Essex Co., England. There were actually five cases. They obviously went on quite a rampage of stealing. You can plot their trail on a map and see that they moved in a small area over about 5 days. We have a map of Essex Co. in that area and the towns were all listed. The records are in Archives Office, Essex County, Chelmsford England - Record: Q/SR 717: pages 38-43, Quarterly Sessions rolls for 1754. All cases were against Philip, Jeremaih and William Lambert .
Bowor, England - July 3, 1754; Fobbing, England - July 3, 1754; Vang, England - July 4, 1754; location ? - July 4, 1754; Fobbing, England - July 4, 1754; Curringham, England - July 7, 1754.
The verdict was, "Guilty transported for 7 years".

We also have a copy of Virginia Military Record, Montgomery Co., Thomas Inglis Company, 7 April 1781, which lists Philip Lambert (over 50). It also lists James Fannin (over 50) which we know to be a close friend of the family. The Fannins and Lamberts lived together on the New River in VA and also in Lawrence Co., KY.

According to my records Job LAMBERT died about 1814 in Cabell Co, WV. He last appears on the Cabell Co Tax Lists in 1813. Hannah then appears in 1814 as a widow; she is on the Cabell Co Tax Lists until 1818. Then in the Cabell Co, WV Marriage Records she marrys John WITHEROW on 1 Oct 1818. John WITHEROW is then on the Cabell Co, WV Tax Lists from 1819 to 1832. John & Hannah are on the 1840 Census in Lawrence Co, KY and then are living with John’s son & Hannah’s daughter - Robert & Anna Emma (Lambert) WITHEROW on the 1850 Census in Fremont Co, IA.
Robert & Emma married about 1828 either in Cabell Co, WV or Lawrence Co, KY.
I have 10 children listed for Job & Hannah LAMBERT - Benjamin, Jeremiah, Nancy, William, James W, Phillip, Ezekial H, Anna Emma & Isaac.
