My grandfather was a Jelley. His father's father was from Cosgrove, Nothamptonshire - Thomas Jelley. I think his son was Earnest Jelley.

I get a bit lost after that...

Any ideas...

I have two Thomas Jelleys from Cosgrove in the family tree
First is my direct ancestor Thomas 1820-1877
Among his children were Thomas 1860-1955 and Arthur Frederic 1865-1938(Fred). Fred is my Great Grandfather and was village baker - the old bakery hotel in Cosgrove was his home at one time and where my grandmother Irene Jelley was born in 1900.My Mother was also born in Cosgrove in 1929 and she knew most of her cousins there when she was a child.
Fred's brother Thomas had 12 children from the records I have seen but I can't see an Earnest.
Do you have any more names or approx dates?

This is a bit more to add on to my previous reply about Thomas Jelley.
I think his son may be Thomas Ernest born approx Sept 1883 .
In the 1901 uk census website there is an Ernest Jelley born in Cosgrove 17 years old and I suspect they may be the same person as he would have been 18 later that year which fits the 1883 birthdate.Cosgrove was in the district of Pottersbury for birth registrations if you want to look it up .
My Mother cannot remember Ernest but she does remember Thomas ( Uncle Tom ) who still lived in Cosgrove until the 1950's.He died when he was 95 .

Hi Julie,

Here we go with some dates etc

Thomas Jelley born 1860 Cosgrove. I think he died in 1962 (I have a newspaper obitury talking about him and his involvement in the boar war. Are we talking about the same person ?

Earnest Jelley (presumably Tom's son) born 1884 Cosgrove.
Died 1967. Lived in Longcroft Lane Welwyn Garden City.

I think Earnest had a son called Aubrey (my grandfather) born 1909. Lived 21 Market Sq Stoney Stratford.

Is any of this any help to you ?

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul

I have just come across this thread again .Thomas Jelley born 1860 in Cosgrove is my Great Grandfather Arthur Frederick Jelley's brother.

I have just been looking at an 1871 census page and Thomas their father is 42 . I think I said his year of birth was 1820 but it must be 1828/29 from the census age in 1871.

The Mother is Eliza and other children are Lucy 1852, Emily 1854, William John 1867 , Sara Selina 1869 and Albert 1872.

Thomas born 1860 had the following children in addition to Thomas Ernest:
Charles 1885, Mabel 1887, Francis 1889-1889, Arthur 1890, Henry 1892, Annie 1894, Fanny 1896, George 1898 , Gertrude , Gwen and Bertiie

I will keep your search in mind, at present I don't know of any Nortants connections, excepy my son now lives in Burton Latimer, Nortnats!
I am researching the Jelley family tree in Coventry UK, where I was born and still live. Records back to the 1770s show that here many Jelleys worked in the watch-making industry.

We are holding a family party on sept 4th this year and it would be good to hear from Jelleys around the world.

Best wishes
Robert Michael
