Surnames: MERRILL RUTHERFORD
Karen ~ My humble thanks! The Merrills listed in the death information from Webster are my kin! Winthrop Merrill was my great great grandfather. George Washington Merrill was my great grandmother's brother. My great grandmother, Emily Gertrude Merrill (nicknamed: Emma) married Joseph William RUTHERFORD in 1880. Their only child, John Joseph RUTHERFORD, was my grandfather. Another Merrill sister, Julia A. Merrill married Joseph W. Rutherford's younger brother, Thomas A. RUTHERFORD in 1863 in Michigan. Both brothers and the Merrill sisters settled in Mont Clare, Cook Co., IL around 1845 and remained there for the rest of their lives. All are buried at Rosehill Cemetery in NE part of Chicago, Cook Co., IL in the Rutherford Family Plot ~ Section H. Winthrop Merrill (b. 1771; d. 1866) was the father of the Winthrop Merrill you have listed. [He was my great great great grandfather!] He and his wife, Mary (nee BEAN) and another of their sons, George W. Merrill, settled in the Mont Clare, Jefferson Twp., Cook Co., IL area in 1835. That son, George W. Merrill (b. 1812; d. 1902), owned the first tavern in the area (and was called Whiskey Point). He married Lydia Juliet LOVETT in 1834. This branch of the Merrill Family Tree are buried at Union Ridge Cemetery - Cook Co., IL. Hope this additional information will help continue to carry the 'torch of genealogy' . Thanks for your help!!

wish to say thank you for this.. just starting out and digging for clues..

Lateral ancestor is George Roy Merrill, son of George W. Merrill 1844-1931. GW Merrill's second wife was Marion Butler, dau of Harvey C. Butler 1818-1871 and Mary Wadley 1832-1905.
Children of GEORGE MERRILL and MARIAN BUTLER are:
• MARY B. MERRILL, b. April 12, 1887, Webster, Washtenaw Co, Michigan; m. FRANK WALTER, August 13, 1917.
• G. ROY MERRILL, b. December 09, 1889, Webster, Washtenaw Co, Michigan; d. November 1975, Washtenaw Co, Michigan; m. NORMA E. VAUGHAN, Abt. 1915.
• HAZEL G. MERRILL, b. August 28, 1892, Michigan; d. September 14, 1984, Northville, Wayne Co, Michigan; m. LYLE HENDEE, February 15, 1919, Michigan.

Trying to figure out the Wadley line.. I found Mary Wadley Eggleston's dc on line and it listed her parents as Amos Wadley and Beda Glass.. This part is where it gets confusing.. I don't think Amos Wadley was her father..
Several sources say Beda Glass married Moses Wadley from NY. Can't figure when Moses (abt 1825?) died, but children found for Moses and Beda is Almira and Jonathan. Moses did had a brother Amos, who also moved to MI in 1847, but he married Clarissa Thurber in Michigan. Both were still living as of 1860 so think dc is wrong.. I am assuming, Beda moved to Michigan after Moses died.. She is in Michigan in 1850. Almira Wadley Daniels, wife of Horatio Daniel was their daughter.

Who do you go to if info on death cert. if incorrect???

Hoping to connect with others related to this line..and exchange info..

Mary Wadley Butler Merrill was survived by two children..
Marion V. Merrill
Roxanna Dawson, wife of Robert Dawson 1855-?

Any leads greatly appreciated..

sheilah
