Hi. I have seen Elisha's grave in Stillwell. I don't know if Elisha was of Cherokee ancestry. I do believe that his wife was but don't know for sure. I believe that there is some cherokee ancestry in the Panter line but I can't confirm it. Alfred Panter was my great great grandfather and we have lost most of the history of that line. any info you could send me would be appreciated!

They also had a son named Harve. We know him as Harve - he was my great, great grandfather. He married Eliza Tidwell in Indian Territory. They lived in Adair and had Alfred Newton, James Andrew, Gladys,John D, Louie N, and otis elmer and cleve edward. No wonder they went by Coonie, Peck, Gladdie, Blue, Red, and Bill respectively. Harve was younger than Columbus, born in 1873.. Do you know anything about Martha? I have her last name as Sutton, born in 1830, died in 1908. Thanks. Lyn Behnke

I believe that Elisha was married to ?Mary Louise and they had Frank, Martha, Jim, Al, Lee, Maggie, and Bill. Was Mary Louise Elrod a sister to Billie Elrod who married Sara Jane Panter? Some stories of Elisha was that he was a farmer and road overseer. In a battle between bushwackers and solders, he had to switch between union and confderate caps as a boy. His brother John R. aka Jack married Nan Adair, a woman of Cherokee descent and their children George, Sue, Tom, Lela, and Maggie are listed on the Dawes rolls.
