I am seeking any info regarding a sea captain named Donald MacKay/McKay who was born in 1848 on the Isle of Skye. He married a Mary MacLennan/McLennan from Lochcarron. I heard from my granny that he may have captained the boat from Skye to the mainland. Any help is appreciated.
I have a Donald Mackay in my research who was born on
April 4, 1829 in Lochcarron. His parents were Neil MacKay
and Janet Mackenzie. He had the following siblings:
John b. december 20, 1826, Murdoch b. June 27, 1831, Christy b. July 23, 1833 and Duncan b. November 17, 1838
all b. in Lochcarron. Christy MacKay married by husband's
grandfather a Neil Beaton from Lochcarron on March 15,
1859 in Lochcarron.
Frances, I came across an old posting from you in my records dated April 2000 - on Mackay and Macdonald Surnames. I can't find it on the board now to reply to, so I am replying to this one!
The last paragraph was talking about John Mackay who married Margaret Mackenzie. It mentiones the children as Donald (b 1879), John (B1882) and Neil (B1884). I can find these names for these poarents, but not on those dates.
I have (all born in Slumbay, Lochcarron)
Christy 13 Dec 1865
Mary Ann 4 Jun 1867
Annabella 9 Dec 1869
Neil (Niel) 7 Jul 1871
John 18 Feb 1873
Donald 26 Nov 1878
You have probably found these by now, but if not, all off Scotland's People so should be reliable.
I think this might be my great great grandfather. Did you find out any more on this? I was beginning to wonder if this ship’s captain was more of a ship that passed in the night!
