My Great-Grandparents supposedly originated from Scotland and I am looking for any Malcolms who are from Scotland. My mother always told me that we were related to royalty in Scotland. (hmmm?) But it would be nice to correspond with you...

Hi! I was delighted to see your message. Our Malcolm family is from Aberdeen. I am lloking for any info about the family of James Alexander Malcolm (born around 1825-1830?) in Aberdeen. His mothers maiden name was Finch, and apparently in the plumbing line.

My James left Aberdeen rather than go in to the plumbing line. He lived in London for a while. He was also a member of the Scots Fusilier Guards.

This is as far back as I have gotten. It is rumored that the family is related to the King Malcolms of Scotland...but no proof yet. Please e-mail me at I have a list of all of the children of my James' son James...

We are working on Duncan Malcolm from Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He took a ship to Nova Scotia and his sons went on to Ontario where they established the towns of Scotland and Oakland. Descendants moved to Michigan where we come in.
Let us know if you feel we could be of mutual assistance to each other. Joanne

There was a book entitled, Malcolm, History Genealogy of the Family of the U.S. Canada," by John Karl Malcolm published in 1950. The Library of Congress has a copy (Call #: CS71, M24, 1950). I received my unbound copy a few years ago from Mrs. Arthur O. (Dorothy) Schmidt, 29 Lakecrest Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan 48236. The telephone number at that time was 313-885-5938 and it was a reasonable cost.
All the best for 2000!

Dear Lance, We have that book. Have been to Scotland/Oakland area several times. Need to get beyond Duncan, tho. Think I have a plan for that. Check with me in a month or so. Joanne

I am not directly from Scotland but do have some information about the royality link. Somewhere down the line we are related to King Malcolm of Scotland. We do have a family castle called Duntrune. it is located on the North side of Loch Crinan.

I'm tracing my family back and hit a wall. My grandfather is Thomas Bridgeford Malcolm b. 1912 in Aberdeen. Married Margaret Fairbairn Ramsbottom Bruce b. Aberdeen 1913.

Thomas'(1912) father was also a Thomas and was a caretaker in a store. He married Margaret Henderson Gossip in Toronto in 1910.

That's as far as I got. If anyone finds this info useful or can help fill in the blanks, please contact me.

How interesting. We have the same lore in our family - that there is a royal connection. Something about a Malcolm being a lady-in-waiting to Queen -?- Victoria perhaps. My Grandmother, Mary Jane had a brother or nephew who served in the British military all his life. At some point he retired in Durban (?) South Africa. I think he spent part of his career in South Africa as well. My Malcolms were living in Paisley in the 1940's. Any connection? Any names and dates you can provide may help put this together.
