Hi: I am still looking to connect to others researching these Bucks County (mainly Warminster and Warwick) families from the 1700s. I would like to confer with or exchange research notes with those connecting any of the SCOUT lineages through the marriages to any of the other surnames above mentioned. The surname SCOUT appears to have been extruded from variations of SCHOUTEN, SCHOUTE and SCHOUT. I am hoping to have some help in identifying the Anthony SCOUT & Mary CRAVEN children and grandchildren, and their marriages. I would like to find those that are missing or incorrectly placed within the wrong generation! These lines are unclear and I would appreciate any help particularly to connect the Scout descendants that had migrated by 1810 into Northumberland County, PA. It would also be helpful if I could have some suggestions of sources/books of early Bucks County Church records of the Warminster & Warwick areas that I might be able to access for births and marriages.
Below is my working theory (full of holes, such as it is):

Perhaps I can give you a lead regarding CRAVEN.
1.) There is a CRAVEN historic house in Warminster, PA, on Street Road, with a large sign in front posting the finances needed for repairs.
2). I have purchased an extensive published genealogy which lists CRAVEN as part of the ancestry of the author.
If you wish I can e-mail him for permissin to forward his e-address to you.

I live in Warminster, Pa. There is a house around the corner from me called Craven Hall. Is there anything or anyone in particular that you are interested in? There is also an old cemetery which at one point in time probably was a part of the Craven Hall property most of the headstones are readable I believe. I can photograph the house for you and/or check headstones for you and photograph them also.

I also own cemetery books for Northumberland Co., Pa., Biographical Annals of Northumberland Co., Pa. and I have the census and indexes for Northumberland Co., Pa. and I'd be willing to help you locate people you are looking for.

I've been doing research for myself and enjoy helping others, I do not charge so if I can help you please let me know.

I live in Warminster and Warwick is the next township over.

Hi Maureen: Thank you for the reply. I believe that the cemetery would probably be the one referred to as the Craven graveyard. I wonder if there would still be a stone standing for James Scout PVT Warminster Co PA Militia Rev War 1739-1829. I would love to have a photo of it, if it is still there.
There might have been a very interesting epitaph on that stone. I would also like to know if Anthony Scout is buried there. Would you know if Craven Hall may have any extant list of those buried there?

The Scout family are my ancestors, maternal direct lines.

Let me see if I can explain why that area may be an important part of my ancestors' history. By Deed dated January 22, 1731/32, recorded in Deed Book 18, pg 555, William Atkinson of Upper Dublin twp., Philadelphia County (at that time) and Lora his wife conveyed to Anthony SCOUT, of Warminster, Bucks County, Yeoman a plantation of 170 acres in Warminster. It extended Southwesterly from the Street Road, a short distance southwest of the village of Johnsville. Another farm of about the same size lying on the northwest, between it and the village of Johnsville was owned by Jacobus Craven. He was Anthony Scout's father-in-law. Anthony was married to Mary Craven. On the Craven property and adjoining the Scout farm, there is an old graveyard known as the Craven Burying Ground where many generations of the Cravens, Scout's, McDowell's and Vansant's are buried.

I believe the Jacobus Craven property or a continuing adjacent piece of it came down through inheritance to the Craven descendants. (Giles Craven). When Anthony Scout died in 1789, the settling of his Estate included the selling off his farm. His daughter Elinor Scout was married to Abraham Sutphin. And, Abe Sutphin was the Executor of Anthony Scout's Estate. Through a straw deed, Giles Craven (Elinor's Craven Scout's brother) took 69+ acres which was then immediately reconveyed to Abe Sutphin who was the real purchaser but was not able to make the conveyance to himself as he was the Exeutor of the Estate. Anthony's son William Scout bought 50+ acres. His son Anthony, Jr. bought 34+ acres. The house and the lot were bought by son, Adrean Scout. In Anthony's Will, he bequeathed directly to his son James Scout one acre whereon James already had built a dwelling. And, it appears James purchased the remaining acreage.

Of the children of Anthony Scout and Mary Craven we have:
1. Andrew Scout married to Phoebe Van Kirk
2. Adriean Scout married to Sarah Gilbert
3. James Scout married to Frances (Fannie) Lewis - Kames was also known as Cobe Scout and had somewhat an legendary reputation in Revolutionary Era.
4. Elinor Scout married to Abe Sutphin
5. Mary Scout married to James McDowell
6. Thomas Scout married to Catharine Heaton
7. Anthony Scout, Jr. who it appears may not have married and his Will bequeathed his property and estate entirely to his sister Elinor Sutphin's daughters families, (John McDowell and Jonathan Delaney.)
8. William Scout, wife Mary ???
I am currently trying to sort out William Scout descendants. I believe he is the one we find in 1810 Chillisquaque Twp., Northumberland County and is the source of my direct Scout lineage. So if there is anything that you may run across about William Scout (1755-1822) that would be great. If William migrated to Northumberland and later to Columbia County (died Liberty Twp 1822), he would have probably sold his piece of the original Anthony Scout farm in Bucks County (likely to his brothers or brother-in-law.) William is the one I am focused on just now and am having trouble finding very much to follow on him.

Several of the Scout sons served in the Bucks Associators. William Scout was a Fugelman in Capt. Josiah Hart's Company.
Please feel free to email me directly. I appreciate any help that you are graciously willing to offer.
Best regards,

Just came across your messages. Found it interesting!
I'm doing research in Neshaminy Presbyterian Churchyard also. Have you found what you were looking for?
I'm rearching Sacwright Family. They settled in Warwick/Warrington area. Richboro and other close surrounding areas. I can't seem to get beyond 1807. Have you been inside the church? I found the old brownstone church there and took a pic. of it. However, in back of that church, is a new church. There is a genealogist that works there; but he is off on Mons. Would like to help if I can.
Good luck! Judy Miller

Hi Judy: I have found bits and pieces of Neshaminy Presbyterian extant lists online but if you encounter anyone listed under the name SCOUT in your work I would like to hear from you.
I would like to learn what extant lists have been compiled for baptisms, if any, that occur there. Please feel free to email me directly.

I was wondering if you had run across a Sarah Craven that m. Charles Mabery?
They came to Ohio between 1860/70 fron Homesburg. Pa. It's said four children were born there, but I can only find 3 of them on the first census here in Oh. Gr-grandm Kate was there first born.
Is there some place I might look for this info? Can you direct me to anyone that might be able to help?
I would like to get the Craven line back beond Sarah. I have no idea of who her parents were, or Charles Mabery's either. According to the 1900 census, Sarah was b. Jul 1841.
Any way you can help me will be greatly apprecated.
Thank you for you'r time.
