BIG SPRING -- Catherine Carpenter, 54, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Jan. 24 at her residence. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Memorial Park, with the Revs. Matthew Miles and Flynn Long officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
She was born Sept. 18, 1949 in Sinton to C.T. and Marj Carpenter. She graduated from Pecos High School and received a Bachelor of Art magna cum laude from the University of Texas and a master's degree from Queen Mary's College, University of London. She worked in the British Isles for 22 years in London and Wales. She was on the staff of Private Eye magazines, edited books for Picadilly Press and other publishing houses. She wrote an English Garden Dictionary and a Guide to London. She taught extension classes for the University of Maryland in Wales. She returned to the states in 1991, and worked for Meteor Publications in Philadelphia, Romance Writers Publishers in Houston and Presbyterian Publications in Louisville, Ky. She was a member of National Press Women and the Presbyterian Church. She moved to Big Spring in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her mother; one sister, Carolyn Stewart of Winnsboro; one brother, Jim Bob Carpenter of Sarasota, Fla., two nephews and one niece.
