No. I am trying to figure out who this Elizabeth Knox may have been. Charles Wilson definately has some connection to Milton McGahey as he is mentioned in the estate papers. Milton has a connection to the Knoxes through his grandson William Eli Alexander (son of daughter Mary McGahey Alexander) who married Sarah Janie Knox (dau of Samuel Willis Knox and Sarah Caldwell McAuley)

I have an Elizabeth Knox married to Charles Wilson Robinson
on 12 Aug 1890. Her full name: Grace "Gracie" Elizabeth
Knox b. 15 Mar 1868 d. 30 June 1914 in Mecklenburg Co., NC.

Grace Knox was the d/o Samuel Willis & Sarah Caldwell
(McAuley) Knox. Therefore, Grace and Sarah Jane "Janie"
Knox were sisters (Sarah b. 31 May 1866 at Huntersville,
Mecklenburg Co., NC and d. 19 Aug 1936 at Huntersville).

Do you not think it is possible that your Charles Wilson was
in fact Charles Wilson Robinson? All that I have for him re
dates is that he died 20 Nov 1938.

I show Wm. Eli Alexander (15 Oct 1854- 8 Mar 1940) m. Sarah Jane "Janie" Knox on 2 Feb 1882. I show they had a
son Jessie Alexander who m. a Westmoreland. I also show
a son Wm. Eli Alexander, Jr.

I show Wm. Eli Alexander, Sr., who m. Sarah Jane "Janie" Knox, the son of Ezekiel and Mary Ann (McGahey) Alexander, who were married 17 Feb 1848 in Charlotte, NC,
by Rev. H. B. Cunningham.

Based on what you said in the query, I placed Milton McGahey as father to Mary Ann McGahey, with notes that
it is tentative. Do you know Milton's wife?

I hope this has helped you some.

Mac Alexander.

PS: Ezekiel Alexander was son of Eli and gs of Amos.
He and Mary Ann had 9 children.

Katharine Curtilda m. James Francis Marion Beard.
John Milton m. Nancy J. Fulwood. 4 ch.
Elizabeth Camille m. Wm. Thomas Cashion.
Sarah Ann..
Houston Johnson m. Annie Torrence.
David Ezekiel ..
James Franklin m. Sarah E. Harrison.
Julia Nancy m. Cowan Lemley Shields. 10 ch.
Wm. Eli m. Sarah Jane "Janie" Knox. 2 ch.

NOTE: Ezekiel Alexander was m. to Catherine C. Houston
first, per my file (m. 22 Dec 1836). She died 1847; they had
4 ch: Jane, Mary R., Margaret T., and Martin M. He m. Sarah Jane "Janie" Knox (2) in 1848.

Ezekiel's parents: Eli and Margaret C. "Peggy" Alcorn m.
21 Dec 1808 in Mecklenburg Co., NC; 9 ch. (listed above).
Eli's father was Amos Alexander.

Dianne: I have many Wilsons from the Charlotte area, and of
these I have 17 Samuel Wilsons. Also, Wilsons from other

Please give me Samuel's wife's name and children, if you have them. I will get right back to you if I find anything.

Incidentally, my Martha Eliza Caldwell Alexander m. Wm. M.
Wilson, son of Sheriff Wilson of Mecklenburg Co., NC. Both
were born in Mecklenburg and died in Fayette Co., TN...she
bd. Hickory Wythe/Withe. A son, John McKemie (McCamy) Wilson was born in Mecklenburg about 1839; he married
Catherine Josephine "Josie" Zellner in 1851 in Hickory Withe,
TN, and they had 10 children; the oldest was a Charles. I do
not have a wife/children for him.

Another son was Samuel Young Wilson, Sr., who married
Emma Elizabeth Ann Gragg in 1893 in Arlington, Shelby Co,
TN. They had a Chas. Robert Wilson who m. Jimmie Lyle
Tucker. He married also to Bess K. Williams, all of Hickory
Withe, TN.

Back to Samuel Young Wilson, Sr., my notes have this:

"born near Hickory Wythe, Fayette Co., TN, in 1865. His
parents were from Mecklenburg Co., NC. He lived for a short
time in Denver, CO, with his older brother, Charles, who died
and is buried there......" I have much more in the notes, but
he was best known for then and now for a general store named S. Y. Wilson General Store, and was a landmark in
Arlington, TN. The store is still in the family and has diversified a lot since it's early beginnings. His son, Milton
Spencer Wilson provided most of the notes I have. Today's owners of S. Y. Wilson General Store in Arlington are Mark and Susan (Wilson) Hogard (2003)....."

I have other earlier files which might reveal more about these
Wilsons also. Of course, the above does not begin to speak
of the Wilsons in my files.

I might mention my greatuncle of yore, Maj. Thomas Alexander. He was married to Jane J. Morrison, d/o Neil
Morrison, Signer of MDI. Their dau. married Robert Wilson,
son of Samuel & Margaret (Jack) Wilson, Sr. Samuel was
also m. to Mary Osborne Winslow and Mrs. Howard. He and\
Mary had 9 children. A dau., Mary "Maria" Jane Winslow
Wilson, married Col. Ezekiel Franklin Polk in 1769 in Meck.
Ezekiel and Mary were the grandparents of Pres. James Knox
Polk through their son, Samuel Wilson Polk, and his wife Jane Knox. Samuel and Jane (Knox) also had a son named
Samuel Wilson Polk b. Oct not have wife or ch. for
him. Of course, James Knox Polk was their son.

My 5Ggreatgrandmother was Susannah Polk who m. Benjamin Alexander in PA. Ezekiel is her brother. She had
well known family (Wm. & Margaret (Taylor) Polk II family).
In addition to Susan(nah) and Ezekiel, there was Brig-Gen. Thomas, Capt. John, Capt. Charles, Wm., Margaret, and Mary Taylor.

Thomas was grandfather of Gen./Rev. Leonidas Polk thru his
son Wm. and wife (2) Sarah Hawkins; his dau. Margaret
"Jenny" Polk married Nathaniel Alexander, gov. of NC eventually.

As you can see, these Wilsons are woven into many of my

This is the Samuel Wilson who married Mary Winslow and they were the parents of Violet Wilson Davidson, wife of Major John Davidson.
Samuel was born in 1711 and died in the Hopewell Community on March 13, 1778. He was the largest land owner in Mecklenburg Co. in 1760 and one of the largest in the state. He had three wives and thirteen children. Mary Winslow was his first wife. A widow Sarah Howard Potts was his second by which he had only one child and his last wife was Margaret Jack, of the Captain James Jack line. By Mary Winslow he had David, Rebecca, Violet Winslow, Benjamin, Mary Wilson, Samuel, & John. I come down through the John line on my Mother's side and from Mary on my Father's. By Sarah he had Margaret Howard and also living with the family is a child named John Davidson. By Margaret he had Charity, Sarah, Robert, Lilly & William Jack.

The McGahey family was connected to the Polks and the Alexanders both of which are connected to the Wilsons but I know of no direct connection.

Dear Tina: Thanks for all the info. I had most of it for Samuel
Wilson, Sr. But, did not have wife/family for John.

Also, who is subject Charles Wilson's parents?

You must realize that Mary "Maria" was the wife of Ezekiel Franklin Polk and thus the grandmother of pres. James Knox Polk, right?

Thanks again, and please let me hear if you can give me more
