my husband's last name is brankston and he was also wondering about his heritage, so after a bit of digging i found that you probably originated in england in northumberland. at some point in the early 1400s (possibly earlier) you settled in scotland around edinburgh, there is some mention of brankston castle that was destroyedby chancellor crichton in 1446. you have a battlefield named after you and also a ridge close to the border of northumberland. since you're family was so small, you probably aligned with another clan around edinburgh for protection and land. i can only speculate it may have been the mcduffs or sinclairs. there was a 2 brother glass blowers that moved to the states in 1846, new york. hope this helps

Hello!

My father`s family name is Brankston and I have information about them dating from 1813 [Wooler, Northumberland] to 1937 [Lanchester, Durham.] I also have a list of Brankstons in Wooler dating from 1729.

I would be very happy to share information with anyone interested in researching this family name.
