Hi Debra,
I have been searching for George Fyfe, my great grandfather. The only story I knew was that his father worked on the Duke of Gordon's Estate and that he was born in Fochabers. He and his two brothers went to Glasgow as young men to work on the shipyards. I did a search on the parents of George -ie George Fyfe (Snr) & Catherine Ross and found their children listed as George, Alexander, Isabella(who died as a baby) and James. I also found later on reference to William & Charles (Chas) who were also born in Fochabers but couldn't find their parents. I would be so grateful if you would contact me so that we can exchange more information. How are you related? By the way, I live in Sydney, Australia. I see you are "bigpond" - does that mean you are also Australian? Bye for now, Ruth

I have no real information concerning your tree but was very interested to read your forefather was the Butler on the Duke of Gordon's Estate. I am also researching my family tree and have found that my ancestors worked on many of the farms on the Estate and there's a strong possibility they knew each other. Here is the address of the Duke of Gordon's Estate now (I believe) the Duke of Gordon died in 1836(?) and his estate was passed on to his nephew who took the surname of Gordon-Lennox (Duke of Richmond). I intended to write to the estate to see if they have records of previous workers there and enclose the address if you wish to do the same if this helps. (see below)

I wish you much luck in finding more about your forefathers i know how difficult it is from experience.
