Alice Mary Kelly - Woolwich - *1906

Good afternoon,
I'm trying to help my partners' first cousin to find informations about his paternal grandmother.

Alice Mary KELLY was born in April/May 1906 in Woolwich as the daughter of Henry Patrick Kelly (1879-1945) and Annie Margaret O'Donnell (1883-1911).
She married George HEATH in December 1925 and they had 4 children together.

During WWII the children were sent to a boys home (Tallentire Hall) and that is where we lost her. One of her sons (my partner's first cousins' father) stayed in Tallentire Hall and went straight into the army. He never saw his Mum again and the father abandoned the children.

It is known that Alice was still married to George at the beginning of the war but no one knows what happened after that. Her husband remarried in 1948.

Has anyone an idea where we could look next?

Kind regards
Bianca

If you have her full date of birth you can search the 1939 Register, I've had lots of success this way, try with and without the surname.

Thank you for your reply. The birth date of Alice is not known to the family and strangely I can't find any of the family members in the 1939 register, not even the children.
I never came across a case like this. Yes, you can reach a brick wall sometimes but to not find 6 people in the 1939 register?
Alices' grandson is 100% sure that the family never left the UK.

I've looked up the London area but I've just read that the 1939 registry was taken at the end of September 1939, WW2 started 1st of September 1939. There was this "Operation Pied Piper", where they started to evacuate children from the bigger cities to the countrysides. Do you think they could have been one of the first ones to be moved? But then I should be still able to find Alice and her husband.

EDIT: I've looked up and I still can't find them :(.

Alice was baptised on 20th May 1906.So must have been born before that!

The children were all born in the last 100 years (from 1926-35) so unless they have definitely died then their records will not be on the open list.

Why don't you get a copy of her birth certificate for her full birth date? Order from
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/app_select.a... June quarter 1906 Woolwich volume 1D page 1237.

The 1939 Register will not show details of anyone born less than 100 years ago or if there is proof of death....although I have see a few that slipped through.

Do you know any of the addresses where they lived when the children were born?

The last entry I could find was from 1934 and they lived in 12 Borgard Road, Woolwich.
The children were born between 1926 and 1935

I can see George and Alice at 12 Borgard Road, together with a Nancy Heath?

Then they all just vanish......I think you are a prime candidate for needing the 1921 census due out on 2nd Jan 2022 !!!

It is just funny that I can find the second wife of George Heath ( she was still married to her first husband) in the 1939 register and she was 6 years younger than Alice. I love puzzles like this :).
We are waiting for the birth certificate and then we will see if we can find out more.
