Hi,

I'm looking for more information on the McCabes. My grandfather was Lloyd Wilfred (b. 1920) and had a sister named Annabelle. Their parents were Wilfred George McCabe (b. 1890) and Jessie Dawson. Wilfred George had lots of brothers (Albert, William Thomas, Sydney, Charles E, Robert James, Alfred E and a sister named Ada Louise). Their parents were William McCabe (b.1847) and Jane Bristow (b. 1856 in England). The gaggle of kids were born in Lambton County, Ontario Canada. I believe that Wilfred George was born in Oil City, Ontario but cannot be positive.

Lloyd Wilfred married Valance Betty Truscott and has 2 children (my mother Judith Claire and my Aunt Joanne Sybill)

Any information would be appreciated! Thanks!!

My McCabe line goes as follows:

Hugh McCabe, b. 1793, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanaugh, Ireland, died 2/24/1878, Goderich, Huron County, Ontario, Canada, married Margaret Elliott b. 1797 Ireland, died 5/15/1883, Goderich, Huron County, Ontario, Canada

their children were:

William Hugh McCabe, b. 1824, Donegal, Ireland, died 5/9/1893, Goderich, Huron County, Ontario, Canada married Barbara Anne Cochburn, b. 1841, Donegal, Ireland,

George McCabe, b. 5/1/1826, Ireland, died 12/11/1901, Washington Township, Sanilac County, Michigan, married, Henrietta Kinch (or Kench) b. 1826, Ireland, died 1/21/1889, Colbourne Twp., Huron County, Ontario, Canada

Rebecca McCabe b. abt 1829 Ireland

My ancestor is George McCabe. Your line does not fit into George McCabe's line - however, I have not done much research on Hugh/Barbara McCabe's line - I do know that they had at least (5) sons that lived to adulthood. Their names were: Hugh b. 1862, d. 1902; George b. 1868, d. 1946; James Elliott b. 1867 d. 1943; William John b. 1871 d. 1950; and Robert b. 1883 d. 1953.

It's quite possible that your line would fit into one of those.

I have more information on William John, who had (4) children all of whom lived in Huron County, Ontario, Canada.

Hugh, died 1/9/1902 in Sudbury, which I believe is in Simcoe County, Ontario. The other sons I have only the birth and death dates.

I hope the above information will help someone.

How large was the McCabe Family in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanaugh, Ireland? My gr-gr grandfather, Joseph McCabe, was born in Ireland in 1830. He married Elizabeth Kearney, b. 1839 in Ireland, in Co. Fermanaugh in 1863, marriage not proven. They had one son, James Edward my gr grandfather b. 1864 in Maguires Bridge, County Fermanagh. Joseph came to the US in 1864 and Elizabeth and James in about 1872/73. The family eventually settled in St. Paul, MN.

Thanks for the information. All I know is that my McCabe side is in Lambton County (Petrolia, Oil Springs, etc.) None of the McCabes on your list seem to match up. Guess there were two lots?

I see many years ago you were looking for McCabes in Southern Ontario. I can tell you my grandparents were McCabes and they did live in the Petrolia, Oil Springs area. My grandfather Wilfred McCabe 1889-1966 buried in Hillsdale Cemetary Petrolia, Ontario. My Grandmother Jessie McCabe 1895 - 1977 buried in Hillsdale Cemetary Petrolia, Ontario. They lived on a farm outside of Petrolia - perhaps Oil City area and I visited them often. Later they were in the Twilight Haven Retirement Home in Petrolia. Their children (Mary, Violet, Annabelle, Bessie, Betty) Mary McCabe 1929 - 1962, Violet HASSON (my mom) 1931-1985, I lost track of Aunt Annabelle, Bessie and Betty. Aunt Annabelle was in Ontario and last name Hinnigan (not sure of spelling but I believe she did have 3 sons and one was named Bill - lived on a farm), Aunt Betty I think still went by HAYWARD but divorced (Sarnia or Petrolia area, she had a son Ivan who passed away when I was maybe 10 or 12 - he was older and living in Florida when he passed but funeral was in Sarnia Ontario), Aunt Bessie married later in life...Bicum (not sure of the spelling - husband was Clarence and last I knew they lived in St Marys Ontario). Violet Hasson and Mary McCabe also buried in Hillsdale Cemetary and plots are with their mom and dad (Wilfred and Jessie). Mom was divorced from Lyle Harvey Hasson. Also buried with my mom is my brother Dennis Harvey Hasson - July 1955 to Aug 1955. My email contact is dianne_L_turner@hotmail.com. (note: between my first name and initial L and between my initial L and last name in my email address is an underscore) You can see their plots through the cemetary project http://cemetery.canadagenweb.org/search.html (search names in Ontario - will show where their gravesites are and a link to the picture of them)

NOTE: In re-reading your original post - Im thinking my mom also had a brother whos name was Lloyd - which would have been your grandfather I assume. My Grandmothers maiden name was for sure Dawson so Im convinced my grandfather was your great grandfather. I believe I have a copy of my moms obit and possibly my grandma Jessie McCabe - I will check it to see if it mentions other names such as my mom having a brother Lloyd...or perhaps other info in my grandmothers obit if I can find it. The name Truscott certainly rings a bell - somehow I remember that name from my past and also the name Bristow.
