Jesse Vaughn, (Vawn) was a large land holder in Wilkingson Co., GA and lived to about 1825. His son James Vaugn married Nancy Collins, resulting in my great grandmother, Sarrah Jane Vaughn, who married Asa Thomas Sanders in 1869, son of Jesse Sanders and Mahalia Vaughn. My grandfather Barton (named for a Dr. Barton of the area) Lee Sanders was born in 1875.
Would anyone be doing anything on the names mentioned above? Alan Richmond

I have been reading the "Vaughn" messages with great interest. My mothers family Vaughns from WIlkerson County, GA. Their father was James W. Vaughn (b. 1885-d.1928) and mother Pearl Seigler. His father was James W. Vaughn (b. 1854) married Mattie Lord 12/10/1879. Working from a sketchy family tree, as best we can figure his father was William (Wiley) b. 1811 or 1812 ( 2 wives Espy (sic) Tribble m. 1843 & Nancy Knoles m. 1853), or John B. 1820, but could be from an unnamed son of Jesse Vaughn (died 9/101825) and Nancy Freeman.

Does anyone have any info. on Jesse or Daniel Vaughn who were both land lottery winners in 1827.

Any info on Jesse in the Revolutionary War??

This is the frist time I have seen any information on Jesse Vaughn's wife. Do you know anything else about Nancy Freeman?

Their daughter Mary "Polly" married James Lowe and lived in Monroe County, Georgia until James' death in 1833.

Jesse was a veteran of the American Revolution and was actually embraced by Lafayette during his American tour. I have much more information I can dig out after I finish moving my office.

Alan: It's been quite a while (4/99) since you posted your msg. re Jesse Vaughn. I'm doing research on the same Vaughn line & seem to have discovered a serious discrepancy & was wondering if you could give me some help with it. It appears that James (son of Jesse) is my g-g-grandfather, however I find him married to a Nancy Lord, not Nancy Collins. The 1880 census for Wilkinson Co. GA shows household consisting of James, Nancy, daughter Martha & 80 year-old mother-in-law Elizabeth Lord. If it turns out that James was actually married to Nancy Collins, then everything I thought I knew from there on down is out the window. I've been puzzled over this but thought I had it straightened out. Would greatly appreciate any info. you might give me to know for sure if the wife was Collins or Lord. Thank You

I've just come across your posting of 9/01 re Wilkinson County Vaughns. If my recent research is any good James Vaughn that married Mattie Lord is my g-grandfather, however by a previous marriage to a Rachel Harnage in Clinch County GA. James' father was James W. (b.1813) & married to Nancy Lord (Matttie Lord's aunt). James W. had a brother named Jesse Coleman (b.1809) & their father seems to be the Revolutionary War Jesse, but I can't find anything about him. My cousin has a copy of a will made by Jesse in 1825, but I haven't seen it.

The 1880 census showing Elizabeth Lord, age 80, as mother in law of James Vaughn, age 66, doesnot make his wife Nancy's maiden name LORD. Elizabeth may have been mar'd more than once.

That census page and the preceeding page are attached.. The preceeding page shows James , age 27, and wife Mattie, age 16, living next door to a LORD family; who might be her parents.. I can't make out first name of Head of House..
