Tain, is in Scotland, and this appears to be Ricard's birth. Unfortunately, you cannot view it online, and have to purchase a copy.

I did find a marriage which could possibly fit, because there are two births, Gordon and Raymond, both have a mother with the maiden name of Dodds..

The name Mackay is very common in Scotland, and is difficult to trace. Do you have any idea of the age of John Mackay, or where he was born?

Thank you again for your help.

I believe Grandad Kay (John Mackay) was in his late 60's when he died in the 1970's in Brisbane Australia. I guess that puts him born somewhere between 1899 and 1908 +/- 5 years.

I was told that John Mackay came from a family of crofters in the far north of Scotland and there was a story about either John Mackay or John Mackays father or grandfather coming from a village of predominately MacKays'in the north. Richard Mackay (my father) talked about visiting family near Loch Lomond and Inverness as a child.

He didn't talk a great deal about his family so information is a little scarce.

Any chance of you obtaining your grandfather's death certificate to see what information that throws up. If he came from the Highlands of Scotland, then Inverness is a more populated area, but Loch Lomond is about 150 miles further south, in the southern part of Scotland. If you could get to know his parents names, then this could be great, as any name beginning with Mac, or Mc, is typicl of Scotland, and there are thousands of Mackays, McKays, etc. and a name like John is also very common.
