Your Fones appear to be Cornish. I have some in Somerset but the majority are recorded in London after a 'stopover' in Andover. Does this tie in with any of your own research?

Thanks for getting in touch. It is my non-computer using cousin David who has Fones in his tree. I only act as a go-between. Have you a little more of your line please, for me to pass to him as he recently said to me that part of his family had come from further west than he had originally envisaged.

Thanks for replying. My father was Reginald Thomas Byrne Fone who married Abbie Maria Tice in the US.His father George Rowland Thomas Fone, m. Cora Byrne, and after he death Emma Alice Hannaford Blackmore. His father-- my great great grandfather was Thomas Fone of Bristol b 1813, d London 1867 and m. Mary Lydia Mortimer bn Devon 1813, d london 1892. Thomas had three sons, William Richard bn 1850,Charles bn 1853 and George Rowland,bn 1855 and a daughter Mary Ann bn 1848.

Various records as I imagine you know, trace the Fone.Fones/ Fownes family back almost to the Conqueror gping back to the presumed first "Fone" William Fone of Saxby or Saphy mentioned in Suffolk Manorial Families and in the Somerville Pedigree in is it Burke's or Debretts "Landed Gentry." While I can therefore find presumptive ancestors in the late 17th century--a Thomas Fone/ Fownes in Plymouth for example c 1620-- the link I cannot locate is the father of Thomas Fone of Bristol, and his father so as to connect them with the well docuemnted earlier bearers of the name.

Where can one see a copy of the Blue Mantle pedigree? So the story goes Sir William sailed with William the Conqueror from Dives-sur-Mer, Normandy. I researched the names of the knights in the church at Dives. Surprisingly all the William(s), Guillaume in French, are listed by town of origin. Now tell me which town Sir William Fones came from. There are about 50 listed. Can anyone help?
