My father is from Derby. I don't know much about any relatives he has there as he came here to Canada when he was 17 years old ( 1953) I believe. His father's name was Edger (Mack)Burton Docksey. He was a policemen in Derby for many years. i hope this helps you out.

Many DOCKSEYS originated from Wirksworth in Derbyshire. Take a look at

Interestingly, my great grandfather was a Policeman in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent .
He was born in 1883 and had a brother Edgar who was born in about 1881. Longton is about 30 miles from Derby.

I'm pretty sure that Edgar married Alice Morris and went on to have a son Edgar.

Ernest was the son of Ephraim Docksey and Maria Plant, farmers of Dilhorne, Staffs.

Any connection?

Dave, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs, England.

Hi! I'm Jeff's sister. Just discovered this site...

Anyways, to correct his info --
Our grandfather was Edgar Burton Docksey, born in Staffordshire around 1900ish. His father was Ralph Burton Docksey and lived in Burton-On-Trent.

I've been trying to trace Ralph's siblings. I only know he had a brother, William, I believe, who was a vicar in the Rolleston [sp?] area. And I believe their father was a John Burton Docksey.

Ralph was also a building contractor and would have been born around 1870-1890...

With a name like Edgar Docksey you would think that ours would be connected. However, it seems that they are not - at the moment anyway.

i'll let you know if I come up with anything if I dig further back.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Docksey
My grandfather was Ralph Docksey, a jeweler, married Ethel, and lived in Jackson, Michigan. My mother, Elizabeth, their older child, was born in Jackson in November 1917, and a few years later her brother John was born. He became a doctor, married Marilyn, had eight children, and still resides in Willmar, Minnesota. I have no other family history but was told long ago that the family roots are in England. I would like to find out if these names are familiar to anyone who could provide me with more background. Thanks!
