We are looking for information on Thomas Lemuel Whidby, my 3 great grandfather. He lived in DeKalb Co., GA near Stone Mountain at least between 1870 and his death in 1892. His obituary says he was born in NC (about 1808) and moved to Augusta, GA, in 1829. It also says A.J. Whidby of the Atlanta Police Dept. and W.G. Whidby of the "Southern Cultivator" (newspaper) were his sons. We found a Crawford Co., GA, 1850 census with a Thomas Whidby, 39, Mary, 38, Elizabeth Bailey, 64 (we think she is Mary's mother) and seven children ranging from 17 to 2. The oldest is G.W. and the youngest is A.J. We also have a 1860 census of Fulton Co. GA, with Wm. G., 23, Mary, 16, and Andrew, 13. We think Andrew came to Atlanta to stay with his brother, maybe only for the summer. William George and Mary Eliza Whidby were my great great grandparents. They are buried at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, GA. We have the Whidby family bible which lists all of W.G. and M.E.'s children, birthdates and death dates. We would appreciate any information on any of these relatives especially Thomas Lemuel. Thanks.
