Hi, I'm pretty certain that I'm John Pillans's grandson. My father was Thomas Watson Pillans, known as Tim, born to John and Jessie Pillans in 1912. My mother was named Henrietta, nee Wood. My dad had two brothers, Douglas and Don, and two sisters, Mary and Effie, all long dead now. Uncle Douglas left Scotland for the US and served in the army there after WW2. He lived on the Big Island of Hawaii and is buried in the veterans cemetery at Hilo. I don't know if he married or had children.Of Uncle Don, I know nothing. Auntie Mary married Tommy Black and they lived for many years at Sighthill in Edinburgh. They had a son, Robert, but I've long lost track of him. Effie married and lived at Kirkliston, outside Edinburgh and I believe she had at least one child. Dad also had a sister, Grace, who lived at Corstorphine in Edinburgh, but she and my father were not close. I have an older brother, John Douglas, who lives with his wife Lexy, at Sollas, in North Uist. He has a grown up son, also called Douglas, who lives with his wife Rachael and daughter Jessica in Milton Keynes, near London. My brother also has a daughter called Angela who lives in England with her husband and family.
I was born in Arbroath but raised in Edinburgh. I now live in Sydney . My wife, Barbara, and I have three daughters, Heather Margaret, Shona Evelyn (now mrs Kain) and Claire Louisa.
It's kind of you to offer the medals but I don't think I have any use for them. However, I would be interested in knowing a little more about them, how they were earned, and where you fit into the Pillans family tree.
