Karen ~ My humble thanks! The Merrills listed in the death information from Webster are my kin! Winthrop Merrill was my great great grandfather. George Washington Merrill was my great grandmother's brother. My great grandmother, Emily Gertrude Merrill (nicknamed: Emma) married Joseph William RUTHERFORD in 1880. Their only child, John Joseph RUTHERFORD, was my grandfather. Another Merrill sister, Julia A. Merrill married Joseph W. Rutherford's younger brother, Thomas A. RUTHERFORD in 1863 in Michigan. Both brothers and the Merrill sisters settled in Mont Clare, Cook Co., IL around 1845 and remained there for the rest of their lives. All are buried at Rosehill Cemetery in NE part of Chicago, Cook Co., IL in the Rutherford Family Plot ~ Section H. Winthrop Merrill (b. 1771; d. 1866) was the father of the Winthrop Merrill you have listed. [He was my great great great grandfather!] He and his wife, Mary (nee BEAN) and another of their sons, George W. Merrill, settled in the Mont Clare, Jefferson Twp., Cook Co., IL area in 1835. That son, George W. Merrill (b. 1812; d. 1902), owned the first tavern in the area (and was called Whiskey Point). He married Lydia Juliet LOVETT in 1834. This branch of the Merrill Family Tree are buried at Union Ridge Cemetery - Cook Co., IL. Hope this additional information will help continue to carry the 'torch of genealogy' . Thanks for your help!!
