FREDERICKTOWN: Rodney W. Furby, age 84, of Fredericktown, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, May 22, 2015 at his home.
He was born June 8, 1930 in Copen, WV, son of the late Hoy and Iva (Wilson) Furby.
Rodney honorably served his country as an MP in the Army during the Korean War being stationed at the U.S. Capital.
He worked for Westinghouse in Mansfield, Ohio for over 31 years and was the last foreman to leave the plant at its closing in 1990.
Rodney attended Palmyra Church of Christ for 33 years.
Rodney was also a member of the Middlebury Grange where he was a member of the State Champion dart ball team.
Rodney is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Velma (McCoy) Furby; children, Terry (Bill) Gambrell of Cincinnati, Sandra (Rob) Berry of Concord, NC, Paula (Jeff) Coffing of Fredericktown and Mitch (Beth) Furby of Howard, OH; 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; sister, Janice Ocheltree of Bellville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by brothers, Denver, Junior "Allen", Paul and Edward Furby; and sisters, Jean Helmick, Pearline Linger, Virginia Cain, and Lenore Hutchinson.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Palmyra Church of Christ, 21184 Zolman Rd., Fredericktown, where a funeral service celebrating the life of Rodney will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015
Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
The family will also receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral on Wednesday at the church.
