John Brown's 1824 will in Boone Co, Kentucky, lists his daughter as Clarissa Harlow Pike (the widow of Zebulon Montgomery Pike). It also names a sister Mary and a brother Benjamin Alston Brown of Woodbridge, New Jersey. George Brown's 1775 will in Woodbridge, New Jersey lists among his children a John Brown, a daughter Mary, and a son Benjamin Alston Brown -- but no daughter Isabella. To me that makes it pretty clear that the John Brown who is the father of Clarissa in Kentucky is one-and-the-same as the John Brown who is the son of George Brown and Mary Alston (married 24 Aug 1745). But it makes me question the oft-repeated story that Zeb Montgomery Pike married his first cousin. Perhaps Zeb and Clarissa were related, but more distantly. I'm still searching to find military records that confirm John Brown's rank in the Revolution. His gravestone calls him a captain, and I have not yet found a General John Brown in the Revolution. I would appreciate any sources that you have that prove or disprove my theories.
