Just stumbled onto this thread. I am a product of Berry and Pilgrim interbreeding. Here's the connection: My parents are Mary Elizabeth Sapp (b. 1943 GA) and James Donald Smith (b. 1943 AL) (m. 1963 GA). My father's maternal grandmother was Magnolia Berry (1889-1966), m. 1907 to Luther Oscar Thurman (1886-1950). Their daughter Lessie Mae Thurman (1910 AL-1993 GA) is my father's mother. She married Arthur Garlon Smith (1909 AL-1984 GA).
My maternal grandmother was born Maline Elizabeth Pilgrim (1918 AL-1996 SC) in Alabama. She married James Washington Sapp (1917 GA-2016 GA) in 1941 and had two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Sapp (b. 1943 GA) and Rebekah Miriam Sapp (b. 1944 +/- 1 GA).
I'm not aware of any Berry ancestor in my Pilgrim lineage, but I haven't done a thorough search. If you've found any information over the last 7(!) years, I'd love to hear about it. Ironically, my parents lived in Marion, SC for almost 10 years (as did my grandmother Maline until she died) and had no idea of the family history there. I'm looking forward to finding out more.
