Does anyone know where I can find a list of names of those who died in the Black Heath Mine explosion of 14 June 1844? My ancestor, John Delancie, came from Durham, England to work these mines in 1840, but I don't have a record of what happened to him. His wife later remarried in 1847 and went to the United States, his son growing up saying that his father had died. Contemporary newspaper records from Richmond, VA describe Jonathan Jewitt as one of the survivors of the explosion, and he indeed was on the boat that departed England with John Delancie and was also on the list of those sending remittances back to England, same with John Delancie, so I think there's a good chance that John Delancie was at that mine in 1844. I cannot find any death records or tombstones online, however, so I'm at a dead end.
Any leads would be most appreciated!
