Donald J. BERLAGE, 69, of Charlevoix, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at the Assembly of God Church in Charlevoix. Pastor Lowell Anderson and associate pastor Joe Johnston will officiate.

Don was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Harry C. and Marie (McMILLAN) BERLAGE.

He served in the U.S. Army and then attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, from 1947-1950. He graduated from University of Cincinnati Law School in 1953.

Don served with the F.B.I. in San Francisco, Callif., and New York City from 1953 until 1955 when he moved to Toledo, Ohio, and worked in the Kaiser Jeep legal department until 1967.

In 1967, he moved to Charlevoix to enter into private legal practice. Don also owned Northern Michigan Title company since 1972.

In 1960, he married Barbara GOOD and the had three sons. He later married Sally LIGNELL.

Don was a member of the Charlevoix Chamber of Commerce, Antrim-Charlevoix-Kalkaska Board of Realtors, the Charlevoix Country Club and the State Bar Association of Michigan.

Don enjoyed golf and boating. He was also a private pilot and real estate developer.

On Nov. 30, 1996, Don married Kathleen LANCIAULT in Bloomfield.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen L., of Charlevoix; three sons, Clint and Jim, both of Charlevoix, and Steve and his wife, Cathy, of Glenview, Ill.; their mother, Barbara FELDKIRCHER, of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel; mother, Marie BERLAGE, of Charlevoix; two stepdaughters, Aimee LANCIAULT of Birmingham, and Elizabeth LANCIAULT of Bloomfield Hills Township; mother-in-law, Helen KUBER, of Auburn Hills; uncle Lee BURLAGE, of Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth, of New York, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northern Michigan Youth for Christ or to the Charlevoix Volunteer Ambulance Department. Envelopes for this purpose are available at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, where friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, Aug. 6.
